Everyone has it and everyone is trying to find ways to remove it from their lives. For some it dominates their entire life to the point where it makes them miserable while others have an easier time dealing with it. Stress, that dirty word that can be devastating to anyones life. The main objective when it comes to stress and stress related situations is to be able to shift your focus from the stress and the tension that goes with it to moving forward and fixing what is causing the stress. Without being able to shift your focus you will always be bogged down by the stress in your life. Stress can be debilitating to ones life and the faster we learn how to shift our focus the faster we will take control of our lives back.
Three Steps to Relieve Stress:
Become Aware: The first step is to ask yourself, what do I feel when stress starts to creep into my life? If you can pinpoint the exact feeling that you have when the stress starts to rear its ugly head then you are on the path to being able to reduce it immediately. When your awareness increases you will be able to recognize the patterns that lead to you becoming stress and allowing that stress to control your life. Awareness will allow you to take back control of your life and especially your emotions. Once you are able to know when the stress is coming you will be able to control how you respond to the situation.
Relax Yourself: Once you have recognized that the stress is coming, you can now train your mind to learn how to relax itself. At this point you will need to set up cues that will help you become relaxed in any situation. Cues such as deep diaphragmatic breathing, positive affirmations, or just repeating the word Relax to yourself over and over will allow you to regain control of your emotions. You can also use physical activity to relax yourself, whatever your choice is it will allow you to take your focus off the stress and start to transfer it to how to fix what is causing the stress. You will now be able to put all your focus on the actions needed to reduce the stress. Find the cue that works for you and go with it.
Control What : If you have done step one and two correctly then controlling the situation will become easier. When stress arises in our lives we have to focus on what you can control in the situation. When we begin to focus on what is outside of our control then the stress begins to take over. Once the stress takes over it will be difficult to stop its momentum. You can control your reactions to the problems. Instead of worrying about every aspect of the stress you will now be able to react in an educated manner and focus on what you can do. When you reach this level you have taken the power back in your life and will begin to conquer any type of stress.
