As the winter comes to an end here in the northeast, it’s now time to get outside and start to play. Getting outside to train can be a great way to change up the normal gym routine and burn extra calories all while enjoying some fresh air. Here are three great workouts that you can do outside that will help burn fat and keep you feeling refreshed.
$1. Stadium Stairs: Most local high schools now have beautiful stadium type stairs that you can walk, jog or sprint up and down depending on your ability. Running the stadium stairs is not only a great way to burn fat as it will elevate your heart rate it will also help tone your legs as you get ready for beach season. The best way to perform stadium stairs especially in the beginning is to run up the stairs as fast as you can then walk down to let yourself recover.
$2. Trail Run: Looking to really become one with nature, then you need to find a nice trail and get running. It is time to get off the road or sidewalk when running long distance to help prevent injuries and it’s time to find a nice trail. A trail run with intermittent sprints will keep your knees from being injured and also help burn fat by utilizing the sprints. Find a trail with some hill, like at Sunken Meadow State Park and you are really in business. That brings me to my third workout that will keep your training fun and help get you in great shape.
3. Hill Sprints: I saved this one for last because yes it is the most difficult but the will give you the biggest bang for your buck. Strapped for time then you will love hill sprints because you do not have to do countless sets to get the desired effect you are looking for. Find a short hill and after a nice warm-up hit about 8-10 sets. Sprint up the hill and walk down to get a good recovery before hitting the next set.
As spring rolls in and you start turning your attention to get ready for the summer give these three workouts a try and you will be happy with the results.
